Giants’ Offensive Coordinator Search Expands
The search for a new offensive coordinator for the Giants is heating up, with notable candidates in the mix. Former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and ex-Titans head coach Brian Callahan are reportedly under consideration for positions on John Harbaugh’s staff, as stated by ESPN. It’s still unclear whether the Giants have already reached out to them or if meetings are yet to be arranged.
Kingsbury, who recently worked as the Commanders’ offensive coordinator, had a challenging run there, particularly in the 2024 season. That year, Jaden Daniels made headlines as a record-setting rookie quarterback, but the Commanders finished low in key offensive statistics, which likely contributed to Kingsbury and head coach Dan Quinn’s split earlier in the year. They both seemed to have differing views on offensive strategies.
Interestingly, Kingsbury was also a candidate during the Ravens’ head coaching search, though the role ultimately went to Jesse Minter. Minter, along with the new Titans head coach Robert Saleh, ended up picking Declan Doyle and Brian Daboll to take over Kingsbury’s previous duties along the offensive line.
On the other hand, Callahan’s recent coaching stint ended abruptly after just six games last season, but this isn’t his first rodeo. Now he faces a fresh opportunity, particularly with the top draft pick Cam Ward at quarterback. Callahan has always looked up to Peyton Manning, dating back to when he was a young assistant under the Super Bowl-winning Broncos. Notably, he spent several years as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2023, where he played a significant role in developing Joe Burrow and guiding the team to the Super Bowl.
The Giants still need to fill the offensive line coach position. There’s an interesting twist: Callahan’s father, Bill, a respected offensive line coach and former Raiders head coach, had worked with his son while he was with the Titans. However, Bill was recently hired as the Falcons’ offensive line coach, making any potential father-son coaching duo contingent on Atlanta’s decision-makers.
Additionally, the Giants conducted interviews last week with Colts passing game coordinator Alex Tunney and Chargers quarterbacks coach Shane Day. They expressed interest in talking with Davis Webb, the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach, as well. Both Webb and Tunney are former backup quarterbacks for the Giants, and Harbaugh might find advantage in getting insights from Day, whose brother Jim is the head coach for the Chargers.
