Klobuchar Accuses Vance of ‘Berating President Zelensky’ in the Oval Office

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said on Sunday on ABC's “this week” that Vice President JD Vance condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at last week's oval office meeting.

Partial transcripts as follows:

Klobuchar: We stand with friends, not our enemies. We go to negotiations – the great American nation enters negotiations with strength, not with surrender. And I was amazed at what happened in the oval office. Before he headed to the White House, I was with President Zelensky and many Republicans and Democrats. He was fine. He was excited to sign this mineral agreement, which is very important to President Trump. In fact, I don't think what's coming is in President Trump's greatest interest. And they were – he went there and I couldn't believe it. George, and I hope you did the clip. Vice President Vance in particular was an offence that he had been denounced by President Zelensky, and in fact we needed a strong security commitment so that we could have lasting peace from all our allies.

Stephanopoulos: As you said, you met President Zelenskyy before he went to the White House. He didn't expect this to happen. Do you think it was a setup?

Klobuchar: You were so pleased with the President and Vice President, whether it was an ambush setup. You know, that's a confusion of this presidency. That chaos is increasing. The corruption is rising. It costs money. Ask anyone in the egg aisle. I don't think Americans bought this. Three percent of them side with Russia in the conflict, with nearly 60% with Ukraine. So, today, my hope is that I am listening to the Secretary of State, the British Ambassador, that is what I care about here. And last weekend, many of the Americans and soldiers I just saw from Ukraine had gotten medical help with a hook arm trying to stand up for the Ukrainian national anthem with one foot you know.
