Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) stated that the recent tragic shootings of former state leader Melissa Hortman and her husband were politically motivated, suggesting there are connections to abortion advocacy as the shooter’s target list reportedly included those in favor of abortion rights and related facilities.
“Clearly, this was driven by politics,” she told Kristen Welker on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
Klobuchar referenced a list of potential targets found in the shooter’s vehicle, which included several notable Minnesota pro-choice figures, according to an official who reviewed the list for Hill’s sister network, News Nation.
“The motivations appear to be linked to political agendas, particularly concerning abortion, as indicated by the individuals on the list and other contents of the manifest,” she remarked.
The senator also mentioned that investigators were looking into any possible connections between the shooter and lawmakers prior to the incident.
“They’re also trying to determine if he had interactions with anyone beyond the lawmakers. Is there something else we should know?” she inquired.
However, Klobuchar urged the public to refrain from speculation, emphasizing the importance of allowing law enforcement to perform their duties effectively.
“They obviously have insights that we don’t possess,” she noted. “As political figures, we’re working to understand this situation, but it’s essential to listen carefully to law enforcement’s guidance.”
Her remarks followed the FBI’s announcement of a manhunt for the shooter, along with a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture and conviction.
