Knicks’ Bold Statement in Playoffs
This moment has been a long time coming.
It all started to take shape last June when the Knicks made a significant move by trading for Mikal Bridges, giving up five first-round picks in the process. Then, the addition of Karl-Anthony Towns in the middle of training camp solidified their ambitions.
However, the Knicks had been on a rough path for a while. They faced their struggles against the Celtics, finishing with a disappointing 0-4 record against them during the season. The closest they came to a victory was forcing overtime in their fourth meeting. After years of rebuilding and reshaping their roster, merely reaching overtime in a conference final run felt inadequate, to say the least.
What they required was nothing short of a statement win. And they got it. On Monday, they achieved an exhilarating 108-105 overtime victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, pulling off an impressive comeback from a 20-point deficit at TD Garden.
