Knicks Send Cease-and-Desist to Mayoral Candidate
The New York Knicks have issued a cease-and-desist letter to Zoran Mamdani, who is running for mayor of New York City. This action follows Mamdani’s use of a logo that closely resembles the Knicks’ emblem in one of his campaign advertisements.
In their statement, the Knicks made it clear that they do not endorse Mamdani’s candidacy, emphasizing their disapproval of the unauthorized use of their logo. “The New York Knicks have sent a cease-and-desist letter regarding Mr. Mamdani’s use of our logo to promote his campaign. We will take all necessary legal steps to protect our rights,” they stated.
Mamdani had previously shared the logo on Instagram with a caption that stated, “This is our year. This is our time. #NewYorkForever,” and the post indicated it was located at Madison Square Garden. Notably, the post has since been removed.
As of now, Mamdani has not responded to requests for comments. Meanwhile, Current Mayor Eric Adams, who is not participating in this year’s race, has officially endorsed former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Looking ahead, Mamdani’s fate, along with that of Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, will be revealed on November 4th. Mamdani appears to be the current frontrunner in the mayoral race.
The Knicks themselves are looking ahead as favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals, having last appeared there in 1999. They kicked off the season with a solid win against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Manhattan.
