Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns questionable vs. Magic after knee injury scare

Karl-Anthony Towns, who limped back from the loss at Chicago, was listed by the Knicks as questionable for Monday's game against the Magic because of soreness in his right knee.

The official diagnosis is right knee tendinopathy, also known as jumper's knee, which causes pain and inflammation under the kneecap.

While this is not a serious, acute injury, it often occurs due to overuse, and Towns, 29, is averaging the most minutes since the 2017-18 season.

He missed a game earlier this season with the same knee ailment.

Without Towns on Monday, the Knicks' frontcourt will be thin with Precious Achiuwa, Jericho Sims and Ariel Hukporti options.

Towns hurt his knee in the second half of Saturday's loss to the Bulls, but still gave up 26 of his 44 points in the fourth quarter.

He left the game shortly after making an and-1 with the Knicks trailing by 15 points with less than two minutes left, collided with a Bulls defender and fell to the court.

Minutes after the final buzzer, Towns felt so good that he sweated it out in the weight room, explaining why he continued playing into the fourth quarter.

“I'm not going to quit. That's not my MO, so I want to keep going,” Towns said. “I saw [the player subbing me out] Jericho [Sims]he pointed at me, I pointed at him, and said, “Let's go.” I had no intention of quitting. I don't care how I feel. I have no intention of quitting my teammates. ”

Towns also detailed what happened during the leak into court.

“I got hit. I was going to go for a dunk. I saw it. [Chicago’s Coby White] “They probably didn't intend for me to do that, but then I changed hands and tried to do my best Michael Jordan impression,” Towns said. “It hurt. All I really saw was an and-one that was too late to help me win. Honest to God, I didn't even know I had made it.”

Towns missed two games this season.

Miles McBride, who has missed three consecutive games, is listed as questionable again with a hamstring strain. He warmed up and ran some sprints before Saturday's loss, but did not play.

Jalen Brunson is likely suffering from a strained right calf.
