Knicks keep up their 3-point shooting spree with a record-setting performance against the Grizzlies

Mike Brown is emphasizing the need for the Knicks to increase their 3-point shooting.

And it seems that his message is resonating, quite notably.

In a remarkable game against the Grizzlies at MSG on Tuesday night, the Knicks set a franchise record with 55 attempted 3-pointers and successfully made 22, yielding a solid shooting percentage of 40.0%. Impressively, OG Anunoby was perfect from beyond the arc, hitting all 10 attempts.

The previous record for 3-pointers was set at 54 during the 2021 season.

Leading the charge, Jalen Brunson contributed immensely by sinking 6 of his 9 attempts from long range.

“We’re focusing on that aspect, but honestly, what I appreciate most is that a lot of guys are making good shots,” Brunson noted. “Sure, there might be some less-than-ideal shots taken as time winds down on the shot clock, but the way we’re creating these opportunities is impressive. We just need to keep this momentum and continue to generate advantages for each other.”

Brown took a moment to reflect on the season, expressing some concern about Gershon Yabusele’s early struggles, feeling he might need to take responsibility for that.

Yabusele ended up with 2 points and 6 rebounds in 15 minutes on the court—not just during garbage time, as 10 of those minutes were actually played in the first half. He, along with Josh Hart, was among the first to come off the bench.

“Yabu worked hard and needs to maintain that effort,” Brown remarked. “I thought he had a good pace, especially offensively. He did a fantastic job sprinting to the screen and creating separation. His ability to set the screen and then follow through was impressive.”

Mitchell Robinson sat out the game due to management of a left ankle injury. This match marked the first of two back-to-back games, with the Knicks set to face the Magic on Wednesday. Robinson had previously missed the second game of two back-to-backs this season, having already sat out six of their ten games due to ongoing issues with his ankle, which had required surgery before last season.

In Robinson’s absence, Brown inserted Landry Shamet into the starting lineup and shifted OG Anunoby to play power forward. Shamet, starting for the third time this season, managed to score 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting.

The Knicks are also set to debut their City Edition jerseys this season, collaborating with the fashion brand Kith for this special design.
