Knicks overcome 29-point deficit to defeat Spurs and take 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals

The New York Knicks proved once again that they’re a resilient team. After falling behind by as much as 29 points, they executed what could be described as one of the greatest comebacks, clinching a 105-104 win against the San Antonio Spurs and taking a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.

Karl-Anthony Towns got into foul trouble early, racking up two fouls in just 62 seconds, which didn’t sit well with the Knicks fans. Things shifted pretty dramatically from that moment, though there was still plenty of basketball left to play.

The Spurs started the game strong, going on a 41-20 run while Towns was sidelined. With a half-time score of 76-49, it was clear they had the momentum, having hit 54% of their three-point attempts in the first half.

As the game progressed, the Knicks began to make strides. They drilled three consecutive three-pointers, sparking the crowd back to life and narrowing the gap to just 16 points. However, at the end of the third quarter, the Spurs were still ahead 90-75.

The fourth quarter didn’t start well for the Knicks, who took almost three minutes to score and found themselves down by 20 points. But, as we’ve seen before, you can never count New York out.

A quick 13-2 run brought them closer, cutting the deficit to just nine as time ticked down. With seven minutes left and then five, the energy in the arena was palpable.

It was surprising, really. With just under five minutes remaining, they managed to regain the lead with a mere 90 seconds left on the clock. The game had a feeling of chaos.

The Spurs made two free throws with just 30.3 seconds remaining to retake the lead, but the Knicks had other plans. Jalen Brunson took a shot that didn’t go in, yet OG Anunoby appeared out of nowhere to score, putting the Knicks ahead with just 1.2 seconds left. The Spurs couldn’t respond in time, and the roar of Madison Square Garden was deafening.
