Knicks overpower Grizzlies to extend winning streak to five games

The Knicks’ Impressive Streak Continues

The Knicks are really starting to make it seem routine; they’re winning games with an air of ease.

They’re looking more like a top-tier team by the day. What’s fascinating is that they might not have hit their peak yet. In fact, they’re announcing their presence:

On Tuesday, they marked a milestone by playing their tenth game of the season.

Besides a short three-game break, fans should be pleased with Mike Brown’s return to the team.

In their latest game, they took down the Grizzlies 133-120 at Madison Square Garden, pushing their winning streak to five games.

They’ve now achieved an impressive 7-0 record at home, marking their best start at Madison Square Garden since the 2012-13 season.

Currently, they’re sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference, trailing only the 9-2 Pistons, who went out in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Back in the 2012-13 season, the Knicks started with an incredible 10-0 record at home.

With two games left in this homestand before hitting the road, they might just edge closer to that milestone.

The Grizzlies, who currently stand at 4-8, have had a tough season, but they still boast star power with players like Jay Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. Unfortunately for them, they appeared uncompetitive against the Knicks.

To add to the Grizzlies’ woes, the Knicks dominated so thoroughly, it felt like coach Tuomas Isalo was ready to throw in the towel.

The first quarter was tight, tied at 30-30 with just over two minutes left. Then the Knicks went on a stunning 19-0 run, transforming that tie into a 49-30 lead just before halftime. The Grizzlies never managed to close the gap to single digits again. They briefly narrowed it to 10 points in the fourth quarter, but it was really too little, too late.

The Knicks dazzled again, scoring over 40 points in the first quarter.

Actually, they’ve managed to hit 40 or more points in a single quarter seven times this season, which is quite a leap from just 14 times last season.

In the first half alone, they poured in 77 points, shooting 54.7 percent overall and 39.3 percent from beyond the arc.

This marks the second consecutive year they’ve scored over 75 points in the first half, a feat they haven’t achieved in back-to-back games since 1988.

As they entered the fourth quarter, they had already racked up 114 points—their highest scoring through three quarters in a game since 2008.

Moreover, they became the first team in franchise history to drop over 130 points in three consecutive games. It’s clear; this team is achieving remarkable things.

What’s perhaps most thrilling is the variety of ways they can score. Jalen Brunson led the team with 32 points, but they had six other players contributing in double figures.

Meanwhile, Morant, who seems to be feeling a bit discontented and whose future with the Grizzlies is uncertain, struggled through the game, finishing with only 16 points on a lackluster 4-of-14 shooting.

Throughout this five-game winning streak, the Knicks have outscored their opponents by a striking 101 points.

Yet, there was a pivotal moment in the third quarter. Karl-Anthony Towns drove and sunk a floater while being fouled, giving the Knicks a 26-point lead. Before he went for the free throws, Brunson pulled him aside for a quick chat, expressing dissatisfaction with their offensive approach.

That’s the standard they’re holding themselves to.
