Knicks Set to Celebrate Championship at the White House
The New York Knicks have been invited to the White House to commemorate their NBA championship win, and owner James Dolan confirmed on Wednesday that they will be making the trip. While details are still being worked out, this announcement comes alongside the Seattle Seahawks’ delayed visit following their Super Bowl victory.
“I got an invitation from the White House, and I accepted it,” Dolan shared during an appearance on WFAN’s “The Carton Show.” He went on to say, “We’re still figuring out the specifics, but I did invite the president to a game. I’ve known him for about 30 years, so I’m quite proud to bring the team to the White House.”
President Donald Trump previously attended Game 3 when the Knicks lost to the San Antonio Spurs. However, the Knicks bounced back to win the championship series with a 4-1 finish.
No specific plans for the Knicks’ visit have been finalized. Dolan mentioned that elements such as travel dates and the number of players attending are still to be determined, leaving some ambiguity about the event.
On the other hand, the Seahawks’ situation is not so straightforward. After their win against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on February 8, no clear timeline has been established for a White House visit. The White House Press Office commented, saying, “We have no updates at this time. Please check back later!”
Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win with President Trump, which made sense due to their offseason program. In contrast, the Seahawks’ offseason program wraps up after their mandatory minicamp on June 11, with players heading off for summer breaks thereafter. This means that the opportunity for a visit to Washington has likely passed.
The team’s next gathering is expected at the end of July, right before training camp begins. It’s increasingly looking like the Seahawks may not be able to mark their Super Bowl victory with a traditional White House visit. Organizing a trip post-season is daunting, as it interrupts training schedules and may not sit well with the coaching staff.
There are even questions about whether the White House attempted to reach out to the Seahawks via unofficial channels but was met with resistance. Similar scenarios have happened in the past, like with the Eagles in 2018.
If the Seahawks are to visit, it seems the only feasible time would be during the NFL regular season. They are slated to play the Washington Commanders in Washington on September 27, but given the tight schedule surrounding that day, including an earlier flight, a White House visit might not be practical without major disruptions.
In short, the chance of the Seahawks getting a White House celebration feels increasingly slim.
