Kristi Noem Encounters Difficult Questions from Senate Democrats

Senate Hearing on Immigration Spending Plan

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) supports Kristi Noem’s appearance before the Senate today as lawmakers discuss the Democrats’ spending proposal for 2026 in the committees on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

The hearing, led by Rand Paul (R-KY), focused on visa workers. Several Democrats participated, seemingly motivated by political gain from those opposing President Donald Trump’s immigration reforms.

Among the Democrats is Senator Reuben Gallego (D-AZ), who is advocating for legislation aimed at significantly boosting the number of consumers, renters, and workers entering through a “legal channel,” a move he claims will economically burden everyday Americans.

On the GOP side, some moderates and centrist members are involved, including Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Ron Johnson (R-WI).

This lineup may compel Noem to clarify the administration’s strategies for reforming the Visa Worker program, which allows the import of temporary immigrants for various job categories, often replacing roles traditionally held by Americans through automation.
