Homeland Security Secretary Vows Investigation into Border Patrol Shooting
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Sunday that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out regarding the death of 37-year-old Alex Preti, who died during a Border Patrol-related incident. She expressed her condolences to Preti’s family, though she raised questions about his behavior that day.
“I feel for them deeply. Losing a child is unimaginable,” Noem remarked during an exclusive interview on “The Sunday Briefing.”
“We cannot allow individuals to interfere with law enforcement and show up armed without any form of identification, confronting officers. That’s a key reason why scenarios like this happen,” she added.
Noem praised law enforcement for their courage in the line of duty, stating, “I think everyone can learn from this situation. We are thankful for the officers who risk their lives to ensure public safety. The investigation will be thorough, and we aim to enforce the law fairly across the board.”
Prior to this, Noem defended the actions of the agents involved, suggesting they acted in self-defense.
Meanwhile, Preti’s parents expressed their profound sadness and anger following the incident, disputing the account given by law enforcement. They described their son as a compassionate individual dedicated to his family and the veterans he served as an ICU nurse.
“The appalling statements made by the administration regarding our son are completely false,” they stated. “When he encountered the ICE agents, he did not have a weapon. He was simply holding a cell phone and raised his other hand in a protective gesture.” They emphasized their outrage over how the situation unfolded.
