Homeland Security Secretary Responds to Impeachment Call
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem pushed back against Democrats on Sunday after Illinois lawmakers initiated calls for her impeachment following a recent shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis.
“These law enforcement officers are trained to enter risky situations and depend on their training every day to make critical decisions,” Noem remarked during an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures.” She expressed gratitude for the professionals who have vowed to serve the country, noting that the American public backs them.
Noem also alleged that Democrats are exploiting the tragic death of Renee Nicole Good, who was shot by ICE agents when her vehicle accelerated, to push a divisive agenda that she claims undermines freedom.
“It’s really frightening that we’ve chosen members of Congress who will leverage this incident to divide us and promote a plan that could strip this nation of our liberties,” she remarked. She continued, criticizing Minnesota Governor Walz, stating, “His corruption has been brought to light,” referencing a fraud scandal in Minnesota that has lately made headlines. “He’s being held accountable and is trying to shift attention from his ineffective leadership.”
Noem emphasized that the Trump administration remains committed to apprehending criminals and ensuring accountability.
Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) outlined plans for Noem’s impeachment last week, labeling Trump administration officials as “incompetent leaders” and “a disgrace to democracy.” She accused Noem of obstruction of justice and breaching public trust.
Kelly articulated her concerns, claiming, “Secretary Noem has caused chaos in the Chicagoland area, and her errant ICE agents created similar havoc in Minneapolis, culminating in the death of Renee Nicole Good.” She added that Noem’s actions breach constitutional rights, asserting that they threaten lives and separate families.
“This is what I am fighting against,” Kelly concluded, reiterating her position against Noem’s policies and actions.
