Kurt Russell Talks Family and Hunting
Kurt Russell, the 74-year-old actor, recently shared insights about his lifestyle and how it intertwines with his family’s approach to food. In a podcast appearance, he revealed that he’s an enthusiastic hunter, particularly fond of elk meat.
When questioned about his feelings toward animals, Russell responded, “Well, I appreciate their service.” He emphasized that hunting isn’t something he takes lightly: “I take no pleasure in taking lives. It’s a joy and honor to adopt your own food animals. I respect that deeply, and it really matters to me.” He also noted that he feels no need to apologize for this perspective.
In a contrasting perspective, Russell’s son, Wyatt, who resides in Colorado, spoke about how their life in the wilderness shapes their understanding of where food comes from. “Kids often run around in their backyards and see all kinds of animals, but when they go to the grocery store, it’s like most people are disconnected from food.” Wyatt explained, “We’ve grown up knowing that what you pick up is going to be your dinner meal.” This connection to their food system appears to be a significant part of their upbringing.
Although the family’s lifestyle resonates with them, Russell acknowledged that it’s not for everyone, saying, “That’s not something I would impose on anyone. It’s just my background.” He enjoys the process of connecting with his food and believes it’s influential in shaping identities.
Reflecting on his lengthy career, Russell often portrays rugged characters, which mirrors his own wild roots. His career has spanned more than 60 years across various genres, giving him a wealth of knowledge about the entertainment industry.
Despite his experiences, Russell modestly downplayed any wisdom he might have gained. He commented, “I don’t know if what I say is wisdom. I’ve learned that the more you keep your mouth shut and your ears open, the more you gather insights.” This sentiment resonates with his belief in gleaning lessons from the years spent in the industry.
As he shares his perspectives, Russell has noted that age brings realities that are hard to ignore: “Age is a reality, but it has never ruled my life. Things change constantly, but if you truly enjoy what you do, that remains unchanged.” This suggests a continuous love for his work, despite the inevitable changes that come with time.
