Kyle Busch’s Heartbreaking Passing

Just days before his untimely death, Kyle Busch and his family were celebrating the birthday of his young son.

NASCAR confirmed that Busch passed away on Thursday, just hours after a family announcement revealed he had been hospitalized due to a “serious illness.” He was only 41 years old.

Three days prior, Busch had taken to Instagram to wish his son Brexton a happy 11th birthday, expressing, “Happy Birthday, Brexton!!! Your mom and I are so proud of who you have become! You are the best kid on and off the track and you amaze us every day. Keep doing what you’re doing and there’s no limit to what you accomplish! Love you buddy!” Brexton is already starting to follow in his father’s racing footsteps.

Busch is considered one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. He clinched the National Series title in 2009 and bagged two Cup Series championships, in 2015 and 2019.

Early on Thursday, just days before the upcoming Coca-Cola 600 race, Busch’s family publicly announced that he had withdrawn from the event due to unspecified health issues and required hospitalization.

“Kyle suffered severe symptoms that required hospitalization,” the announcement explained. “He is currently receiving medical treatment and will not be participating in any activities scheduled at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend. We ask for your understanding and privacy as we navigate this difficult time.”

Shortly before 6 p.m. ET, NASCAR made the announcement regarding Busch’s passing. “NASCAR is saddened and heartbroken to announce the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of the greatest and most ferocious drivers in our sport,” the statement read. “He was 41 years old. We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing, and the entire motorsports community.”

During a race at Watkins Glen on May 10, Busch had requested medical assistance, indicating he needed a “shot” afterward.

The day after winning the Craftsman Truck Series ECOSAVE 200 at Dover Motor Speedway, he mentioned he still “doesn’t feel great.” When queried about the medical call, he reflected, “It might still sound a little bit, but I’m not in my prime yet. My cough last week was pretty bad.”

Busch is survived by his wife Samantha, son Brexton, and daughter Lennix.
