Tribute to Kyle Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy’s Granddaughter

Kyle Kennedy, a granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, passed away at the age of 42, according to various reports.

Kyle, the daughter of Michael Kennedy, was one of the 34 grandchildren of Robert F. Kennedy and his wife Ethel. She reportedly died on September 21, as stated by PEOPLE.

Kyle Kennedy was also the niece of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Born on July 6, 1984, in Washington, D.C., she worked as an educator. Her obituary highlights her passion for early childhood education and her efforts in educational reform for underprivileged children and individuals with disabilities. After graduating from college, her career began in New York City with Teach For America.

I think it’s important to note that her death comes after a long struggle with paralysis due to a severe spinal cord injury she sustained in 2020. TMZ reports that the cause and manner of her death were not disclosed in the obituary.

Kyle endured personal tragedy early on; she was just 13 when her father Michael Kennedy died in a skiing accident while playing football on skis with family members.

Following the news of her passing, numerous individuals expressed their condolences on social media, emphasizing that she should be remembered for more than just her family’s legacy. One account mentioned her impressive achievement of completing the Boston Marathon in 2019, surpassing her father’s time by 20 minutes, only to be left paralyzed a year later due to her injury.

She later testified in front of Massachusetts lawmakers regarding healthcare discrimination faced by people with disabilities. Her contributions to education and her legacy as a mother to two young sons were also highlighted.

Another person remarked on social media about the heartache surrounding this family, noting the series of tragedies they have faced over the years.
