Kyle Pitts Stays with Falcons on New Contract
Kyle Pitts is set to remain in Atlanta for a while longer. The tight end has reached a three-year agreement with the Falcons, which includes a $54 million contract extension, featuring $36 million guaranteed. This deal means Pitts will stay with the team at least until 2028.
Having been drafted in the first round of 2021, Pitts now stands as the NFL’s third-highest-paid tight end, trailing behind George Kittle of the 49ers and Trey McBride from the Cardinals.
Initially, Pitts was slated to play under the franchise tag until 2026, which put some pressure on the Falcons and him to finalize terms by July 15. Thankfully, that’s no longer a concern.
Entering the draft, Pitts was considered one of the most promising tight end prospects ever. Yet, the Falcons’ decision to pick him at No. 4 raised eyebrows, as tight ends are rarely selected that high.
In his rookie season, he made a splash, amassing 1,026 receiving yards despite playing behind a less-than-stellar offensive line. He was even in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year, although he ultimately lost out to Ja’Marr Chase.
From 2022 to 2024, Pitts faced challenges with injuries and inconsistent quarterback performance, which limited him to under 700 yards in each of those three seasons. However, he made a notable comeback in 2025.
Even though the Falcons haven’t made the playoffs in eight years, Pitts managed to tally 88 receptions and 928 receiving yards last season, ranking second among tight ends. He’s formed a strong offensive trio alongside Drake Rondon and Bijan Robinson.
Taking into account his inconsistent performance and injuries, Pitts’ 3,579 receiving yards since 2021 put him fourth among tight ends, only behind Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Mark Andrews.
The new structure under head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Ian Cunningham appears to be concentrating on supporting either Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagovailoa as the team’s quarterback this fall.
Recently, the Falcons secured Rondon with a massive four-year, $141 million contract extension, indicating their commitment to solidify their roster.
With the second-longest playoff drought in the league, following only the Jets, the Falcons are set to kick off their season against the Steelers on September 13th.
