“My comments last night were ignorant and counterproductive.”
On Thursday, he posted a video saying he supports former Rep. Ron Paul because he doesn’t like President Trump’s record on gun control.
“Unfortunately, Donald Trump has bad advisors and is in a bad position on the Second Amendment,” he said.
“If you can’t completely compromise on the Second Amendment, then I’m not going to vote for you,” he added. “We need defenders of the Second Amendment, otherwise our rights are going to be eroded and eroded every day.”
he Added Defiantly, “not compromising means not settling.”
On social media, Rittenhouse was met with a flurry of condemnation of what many saw as a betrayal of the right-wing cause.
Hours later, he said he had changed his mind about his choice after hearing from the Trump campaign.
“Over the past 12 hours, I have had a series of constructive discussions with members of the Trump campaign and I am confident that Mr. Trump will be the strong ally gun owners need to protect their Second Amendment rights,” Rittenhouse wrote.
“My comments last night were ignorant and counterproductive,” he added. “I support Donald Trump 100 percent and I call on all gun owners to join me in bringing Trump back to the White House.”
Many people supported his change of heart.
