Kyle Tucker’s Major Deal with the Dodgers

Former Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker has reportedly signed a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers worth $240 million. This means he’ll earn an impressive average annual salary of $60 million. Just to put that in context, it ranks as the second-highest in baseball history, trailing behind Shohei Ohtani’s $70 million deal, which extends for ten years with the Dodgers until 2033.

Tucker has shown great potential when healthy, recognized as one of the top players in the league. That said, he has only participated in 214 regular-season games across the last two years, which, well, raises some questions about his longevity.

Last season, he recorded a batting average of .266 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs during his time with the Cubs. He was traded to Chicago from Houston in a significant deal that sent the highly-rated prospect Cam Smith to the Astros.

Unfortunately for Tucker, his development took a hit due to two injuries in the past year with the Cubs. He suffered a fracture in his right hand from a challenging slide against Cincinnati, and later, a left calf injury during a game against Atlanta.
