Kylian Mbappe nets two goals as France defeats Sweden to maintain World Cup supremacy

Kylian Mbappe Shines Again at MetLife Stadium

Kylian Mbappe delivered another remarkable performance at the MetLife Stadium, captivating fans once more.

It seems likely that the French star will return to New Jersey for another game soon.

France maintained their flawless World Cup journey with a commanding 3-0 victory over Sweden in the round of 32, making strides toward the final, which is set for July 19 in the Meadowlands. Mbappé, impressively, recorded his third multi-goal match of the tournament.

The French captain opened the scoring just before halftime and added his sixth goal of the tournament in the 74th minute, currently tying him with Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot with 18 World Cup goals. Remarkably, Mbappe, age 27, stands just one goal behind Messi, all while being 11 years younger and having played 11 fewer World Cup matches.

“I can’t predict Messi’s future. He’s always been a scorer and will continue to be,” remarked Mbappe, who later took a post-match picture with another sports legend, OG Anunoby. “My focus is on supporting my team.”

France etched their name in World Cup history by being the first to win three group stage matches with a margin of three goals or more since their 1998 victory, also marking the first team to score three or more goals in five consecutive World Cup matches. They hold the highest goal difference in the tournament at plus-11.

Next, instead of facing a powerhouse like Germany in the round of 16, France will meet Paraguay on July 4 in Philadelphia. The trajectory looks promising for the favorites, as they could potentially face either Morocco or Canada in the quarterfinals.

“The matches start on July 1,” noted one enthusiastic fan.

After scoring the second goal in the match against Sweden, young players like Kylian Mbappé (who was 10 years old at the time) seemed to soak in the excitement, celebrating alongside fellow forward Michael Olisse.

Swedish manager Graham Potter commented, “I’ve never encountered a better team. Perfection was essential for us, but even that might not have been enough.”

Through the first half, Mbappe experienced frustration; he faced an offside call in the 20th minute and struck the post in the 31st minute, visibly searching for an answer.

However, just before halftime, he broke through. With a quick move that showcased his skill, he carved through defenders and took a curling shot that delighted the crowd. The mood brightened as he celebrated with manager Didier Deschamps and his teammates, particularly after recent personal struggles that kept him out of the last match.

“This team embodies unity,” said Mbappe. “We’re all in this together… He’ll always have our support.”

As he made his exit in the 85th minute, Deschamps showed his admiration for Mbappe by bowing, clearly thrilled by the legendary performance he witnessed.

“He’s been a role model since day one,” Deschamps reflected. “The strength of this team is undeniable, with Captain Killian leading by example.”
