Kyrie Irving underwent hand surgery, but the Mavericks aren’t worried about the superstar missing training camp.
Dallas announced Tuesday that Irving underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his left hand that he suffered during a workout earlier this month.
ESPN reported. The source said he was “optimistic” that Irving will be healthy enough to participate in training camp, which begins in just under three months.
Irving commented on the surgery: Post by X.
“Thank you all my friends for all the messages and prayers,” the Mavericks star wrote. “God knew I needed time away from basketball to heal after such a long season. I would love to work on my craft but right now I need to rest and recover.”
Irving played a key role in Dallas’ run to the NBA Finals, which ended with the Celtics defeating the Mavericks in five games.
The former Net averaged 25.6 points, five rebounds and 5.2 assists in his first full season with Dallas.
During the playoffs, he averaged 22.2 points and 5.1 assists per game en route to the Finals.
Irving broke his right hand when he hit a wall during an NBA Summer League practice and had surgery in 2012 before playing his second season with the Cavaliers.

The Mavericks have other players dealing with injuries since the playoffs, including Luka Doncic, who is dealing with a right knee injury and a chest contusion.
