The former team USA basketball guard is hoping to play in another country at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Dallas Mavericks superstar Kyrie Irving, who won a gold medal in Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics, was asked if he would play for Australia in the next summer match.
Irving was born in Melbourne, Australia, and his father was down the professional ball.

“We're in the process now,” Irving, 32, said. He told reporters NBA All-Star Weekend. “I'm just trying to understand what will be the best route for me to qualify. There's a lot of paperwork in between.”
Irving is not trying to cut Team USA, particularly considering he didn't play with them at the 2021 Toyco Olympics or last year's Parisiolmpics.
He will be 36 when the 2028 game chips off, but it's not guaranteed that he'll always create a human-powered roster for Team USA. Meanwhile, Team Australia is unlikely to have less competition, and having a nine-time All-Star on the roster would be a great addition.

Irving waits to hear from Team USA to see if he may have a spot, but will “do what's best for me.”
“Obviously, Team USA still has a decision,” he explained. “…To be honest, if I'm an Australian at some point in my career, if I can play for an Australian team, that's great.”
It's something I look forward to in the future, but the topic has shifted to what the NHL is doing for its own All-Star break, as it has been so popular since the 4 Nations showdown began.

Instead of the regular All-Star Festival, NHL players are playing in round robin tournaments where Team USA, Team Canada, Team Finland and Team Sweden head directly to see who wins the right to brag. On Thursday night before the second half of the NHL season begins, Team USA and Team Canada will become Canada in the championship game.
If the NBA moves on to it – talk about the world that the world teams have created talk over the weekend – Irving hinted, “I'll choose the world now.”
“I'm always going to be with my American,” Irving said. “We have a lot of history. I'm grateful that I've been both. I grew up in the US, but I was born in Australia.”
Irving, who helped the Cleveland Cavaliers win the 2016 NBA Finals, is a three-time All-NBA guard and is the 2011-12 Rookie of the Year. He is in the middle of his 14th NBA season after winning the Cavs' first overall pick in 2011.
