Senator Kyrsten Sinema Discusses Relationship in Court
Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who transitioned from being a Democrat to an independent, recently spoke candidly in court regarding her romantic relationship with her former bodyguard, Matthew Ammel, who is now her boyfriend.
Sinema is involved in a legal dispute with Ammel and his ex-wife, Heather Ammel, as reported by TMZ. The former spouse’s lawyer has criticized Sinema’s role in the situation surrounding their marriage.
According to the legal documents obtained by TMZ, Sinema testified that her relationship with Matthew began in late May 2024 during a trip to California. She recounted how it all started while they were at an Airbnb in Napa. “Matt kissed me. We went inside and we had sex,” she explained, indicating that this was her first experience with both kissing and intimacy.
Heather Ammel has initiated a lawsuit against Sinema, alleging that her actions contributed to the dissolution of her marriage to Matthew. North Carolina law permits spouses to pursue legal action against individuals whose involvement leads to the end of their marriage.
Reports suggest that Matthew and Heather were married for 14 years before separating. Sinema has argued that the state’s “home wrecker” law does not pertain to her case due to her lack of connections to North Carolina.
Details, including suggestive messages and expensive trips to places like Napa Valley and Saudi Arabia, have emerged. Sinema’s team asserts that the relationship was not established in North Carolina until after Matthew and Heather had ended their marriage.
To gather evidence, Sinema’s attorney, Stephen Epstein, issued a subpoena for documents from Heather’s therapist that encompassed session dates, notes, and various medical forms from 2024. However, Heather’s attorney, Thomas Van Camp, opposed the subpoena, claiming it was irrelevant to the case and beyond the reach of the court’s orders.
In March 2024, Sinema announced her decision to retire at the end of the year and confirmed that she would not seek re-election.
