L.A. City Council Backs Karen Bass, Upholds Fire Chief’s Dismissal

The Los Angeles City Council voted 13-2 to support Mayor Karen Bass' decision to fire La Fire Station Chief Christine Crowley, and to affirm the firing. Crawley would have needed 10 votes to recover.

As reported by Breitbart News, Bass fired Crowley last month, claiming that “1,000 firefighters who may have been working in the morning had a fire broke out on Crowley's watch,” and that Crowley “refused” to “take an action report on the fire.”

West Side Current It has been reported Crowley disputed these claims:

Crawley claimed that she did not send 1,000 firefighters home, leaving 40 available fire trucks unmanned. The former chief said 40 fire trucks were already on staff and operated 911 staff and 911 calls when the Palisade erupted.

Under the city's charter, Crawley needed the support of 10 of the 15 councillors to revive as Chief. That number proved difficult to reach. Four councillors stood side by side with Bass at a press conference on February 21st. Crowley's Ouster, Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Curren Price, Hugo Soto-Martinez and Adrin Nazarian. Councillor Bob Blumenfield has also made public appearances in support of the base decision.

However, on Tuesday, Monica Rodriguez, who opposed the firing of council members Tracy Park and Crawley, urged her colleagues to revive her as fire chief.

Los Angeles Times Previously, 10 fire engines that may have been pre-deployed in the Pallisard region of the Pacific Ocean were reported not. Breitbart News reported that Mayor Bass cut nearly $18 million from the firefighter budget, so the decision to firefighters before the deployment was taken for budget reasons.

Many Bass critics argued that she should have resigned, whether Crawley was fired or not.
