The boss of the Los Angeles Fire Station union blows up Mayor Karen Bass with Chief Christine Crowley of the fire department, and head firefighters were used as “scapegoats” due to the city's response to the fatal Palisades wildfires. He claimed that he was.
United firefighters of Los Angeles Mayor Freddie Escobar were furious at Bus's Axe Crawley decision.
“On behalf of the firefighters I represent, I say here we are furious at the end of Fire Chief Crowley. In our opinion, Chief Crowley became a scapegoat and she He's been fired for telling the truth,” Escobar said Friday.
On Friday, Bass alleged that when the Palisade fire broke out in the Pacific Palisades area on Jan. 7, thousands of firefighters weren't scheduled to work, and Crowley accused staff fire department of failure.
“We know that the 1,000 firefighters who could have been working in the morning had fired instead on Chief Crawley's watch,” Bass said.
Escobar fought back at the 71-year-old mayor's claim, saying the department has more personnel available, but he argued that there is a lack of appropriate resources.
“I was here in Los Angeles when they recalled, and we were happy to participate more than we had seats to accommodate those members,” he added.
The union accused them of cutting budgets for sectors that would be used to prevent wildfires, including brush clearance and civilian positions.
In fact, there are still nearly 100 broken fire engines, trucks and ambulances in the maintenance yard to cut down on private mechanic jobs,” the union wrote on Facebook Friday night.
“This is a city that ignores fire departments and can't even pay firefighters correctly for the work they do every day.”
Bass denounced the former chief for not following the post-action report ordered by the chairman of the LA Fire Commission, saying Crowley refused to prepare the report, the claim objected. .
“I'll talk right now. When I talk, there's post-action reporting happening,” he said. “It's called FSRI and shortens the Fire Safety Institute.”
FSRI is a private organization operated under the UL research institute.
The independent group was entrusted by Gov. Gavin Newsom to conduct a broad analysis of the Pallisard and Eton fires, which burned 37,700 acres of land, destroyed 16,255 buildings and killed 29 people.
The report is divided into two parts. Fact-finding and analysis examine local and state policies where the latter may have led to fire. FSRI said on February 3rd.
Escobar and Union stood by Crawley, saying that her firing was “wrong.”
“Our firefighters did their job against a huge obstacle during the Pallisard fire. There's not enough firefighters, enough work rigs, broken fire hydrants, dry water supply. All of this is. It happened, but the fire chief has been singled out and is being scapegoats,” the union said.
The bass has been scrutinized since the fatal fire exploded while she was in Africa for a delegation trip for Ghana's President John Mahama's inauguration.
