LA Mayor Karen Bass issues directive for cash assistance to immigrants impacted by ICE raids

Los Angeles Mayor Signs Executive Order Supporting Immigrants

On Friday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass signed an executive order aimed at providing support for immigrant communities. This order enhances protocols and introduces cash assistance in response to what she described as an illegal attack from the previous Trump administration targeting individuals living in the U.S.

The intent behind this order is to safeguard the city’s workers and residents from federal immigration enforcement efforts. A federal agency is expected to deliver records regarding raids and inform the public about the associated taxpayer expenses.

At a news conference, Bass emphasized the necessity of the executive order, stating, “We need to have a framework that helps our cities protect themselves from federal actions.” She expressed concerns over the ongoing six-week offensive, noting uncertainty about its timing and locations.

Additionally, she pointed out that this directive will guide city employees on how to appropriately engage with immigrant staff when approached for assistance.

The executive order also outlines training for city departments to ensure they formulate protocols in line with Los Angeles’ Sanctuary City Ordinances.

Bass also revealed plans to provide cash assistance for those impacted by executive operations. According to her, immigration rights groups will distribute cash cards worth “a few hundred” dollars within a week, funded through charitable partnerships rather than city resources.

A White House spokesperson responded, somewhat derisively, to the developments, likening them to content from a satirical news site. The spokesperson argued that recent immigration enforcement in California has successfully detained individuals involved in violent crimes and exploited children, while criticizing Bass for allegedly prioritizing the defense of undocumented immigrants over American citizens.

Moreover, the spokesperson claimed that Americans are weary of what they perceive as political theatrics from Democratic leaders, reinforcing the popularity of President Trump’s policies.

Bass has been openly critical of immigration operations targeting undocumented individuals in the city. Los Angeles is among several municipalities that have initiated legal action against the Trump administration concerning what they term illegal immigration tactics.

This past Thursday, immigration agents conducted a raid on a cannabis farm in nearby Ventura County, focusing on unauthorized workers. Reports indicated that eight undocumented minors were discovered on the premises, prompting an investigation into potential child labor violations.

Earlier that week, approximately 100 National Guard personnel and immigration officials were present at MacArthur Park, leading to accusations of criminal activity against nearby buses—an assertion denied by U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino.

Bovino stated, “I don’t work for Karen Bass,” reinforcing that immigration enforcement operations will continue throughout Los Angeles.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Bass’s office for further comments.
