The dairy company HP Foods has voluntarily recalled its lactose-free dairy product Lactase in 27 states because of possible almond contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
This milk may contain undeclared traces of almonds which may be unsafe for people with allergies or severe sensitivities if they consume the product.
The FDA says these people are at risk of experiencing severe or life-threatening allergic reactions.
HP Hood announced the recall Friday of 96-ounce containers of whole milk, 1%, 2%, nonfat and 2% calcium-fortified lactase milk shipped to retailers and wholesalers between Sept. 5 and Sept. 18.
The issue was identified as possibly being caused by traces of almonds being present during routine maintenance programs.
The states where the recalled milk was sold are Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported from taking this product.
The recall only applies to products with the code 51-4109 P2 and a specific “best before” date. FDA Announcement.
Anyone who purchased any of the affected products can return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund or replacement.
