Lady Gaga’s Bold Statement During Tokyo Concert
Lady Gaga recently sparked a range of reactions online after addressing a serious issue during her concert in Tokyo, Japan. She paused her performance at the Mayhem Ball to speak about ICE enforcement, which has been a hot topic lately.
“I want to take a moment to talk about something that’s very important to me—and to people all over the world, especially in America,” the 39-year-old artist shared. “As I plan to head home soon, my heart aches for the families and children in America who are being unfairly targeted by ICE. I think about their suffering; their lives are being shattered right in front of us.”
Recent weeks have seen heightened scrutiny on law enforcement, especially after two individuals were shot and killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
“I’m thinking of Minnesota and everyone there who lives in fear, searching for answers,” Gaga continued. “When a community loses its sense of safety and belonging, something breaks within us all. I hope you all stand with us tonight. Although we aren’t in America, we are with our community, and we love you.”
She then dedicated her song “Come to Mama” to “everyone suffering, feeling alone, or going through tough times, enduring loss without knowing what’s next.”
Her words about needing safety and peace resonated strongly. She stated, “Good people shouldn’t have to risk everything just for respect and well-being. I hope our leaders will listen and change their actions swiftly. Everyone in this country should have compassion. In difficult times, I find strength in my friends and family, which is why I spoke up tonight.”
While the audience at the concert showed appreciation for her comments, social media had mixed reviews.
One commenter remarked, “I can’t help but care,” while another criticized her, calling her an “anti-American psychopath.” A different person expressed frustration, voicing that they came for a concert, not a political talk.
Despite the backlash, many fans rallied behind her. There were comments like, “I love her so much,” and one even shared that her speech brought them to tears.
One fan commented, “I’m glad my favorite artist stands on the right side of history,” while another said, “Well said. Powerful words.” Gaga has consistently voiced her political views, previously endorsing Kamala Harris and advocating for the LGBTQ community.
She is expected to return to the U.S. this weekend for the Grammy Awards.
