Lady Gaga Cancels Tokyo Concert
Pop star Lady Gaga recently canceled a concert in Tokyo, Japan, to express her concerns about the situation in the United States, specifically addressing misconceptions surrounding the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
During her performance on Wednesday night, the “Bad Romance” singer addressed the audience, stating she wanted to discuss an important topic. She voiced her worries about the treatment of individuals and families targeted by ICE in America.
“I feel compelled to talk about something that matters deeply to me and to many people worldwide, especially in the U.S. right now,” she exclaimed. “As I prepare to head back home soon, it breaks my heart to think about the pain and suffering inflicted on children and families by ICE across the nation.” She went on to describe the devastation many are experiencing.
She also mentioned, “I’m thinking of those back home, like you in Minnesota, who are living in fear and seeking answers about what to do next. When a community feels unsafe, it breaks something within all of us. Even though we’re not in America right now, we are with you in spirit, and we care.”
Gaga dedicated her song “Come to Mama” to “those who feel isolated or are struggling through difficult times, especially when facing the loss of a loved one or uncertain futures.”
“We really need to find our way back to safety and peace,” she concluded. “Good-hearted individuals shouldn’t have to fight so hard for basic dignity and respect. I hope our leaders will heed our calls for change and compassion for everyone in this country. It’s tough to remain hopeful at times like this, but my friends and family are standing by me, so I want to share a song that brings hope tonight.”
Notably, Gaga did not address the violence inflicted upon Americans by illegal immigrants, nor did she acknowledge that some blame President Biden for the current border situation. She has previously endorsed Biden, who faces criticism for his border policies that many say have allowed a surge of illegal immigration and subsequent security risks.
