Landon Dickerson's NFL future uncertain at 27 as a Pro-Bowl guard for the Eagles

Changes Ahead for Eagles’ Offensive Line

The Eagles might be looking at more adjustments on their offensive line.

Legendary offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland has announced his retirement due to an injury, and it appears there’s some uncertainty regarding veteran guard Landon Dickerson. Reports are circulating about his situation.

Dickerson, who is 27, recently inked a four-year contract extension worth $84 million, ensuring he stays with the team for at least three more seasons. He’s still relatively new to the squad, being in only his fifth season, yet he has consistently played in at least 14 games each year, solidifying his role as a key member of the offensive unit.

“Landon Dickerson might be even more of a question mark for me,” remarked Eagles beat writer Jeff McClain on the “unCovering the Birds” podcast this week, while also discussing fellow lineman Lane Johnson’s uncertain future with the team.

His skills have been crucial for the Eagles, contributing to their long-term successes, including the Super Bowl win in 2025.

However, Dickerson has had his fair share of injuries, which have impacted his performance. Despite this, McClain mentioned that he seems “healthy and strong” at the moment.

Dickerson was receiving treatment for his right knee early in the season but managed to play in 15 regular-season games before the team’s defeat to the 49ers in the playoffs. He’d sustained an ankle injury the previous week but only missed one game due to that setback.

After the disappointing end of the Eagles’ season with a 23-19 loss to the 49ers, Dickerson described his year as “terrible” compared to prior seasons, primarily because of the ongoing injuries.

According to PHLY Sports, he sounded a bit pessimistic about fully recovering. “If I had that answer, I would feel a lot better,” he noted.

Furthermore, there’s also some concern about star right tackle Johnson, who might be considering retirement after a stellar 13 seasons in the league. McClain suggested that Stoutland’s exit could play a role in Johnson’s decision, though he seems inclined to believe Johnson will gear up for one last season.

“My impression is that he has no idea if he’s going to come back or not,” McClain said. “This situation with Stoutland might make it a bit less likely.”

For the Eagles to continue their momentum into the next season, they’ll have to demonstrate just how vital Johnson is to their plans. McClain predicted they’d need to reinforce their offensive line during this year’s draft, as these issues will significantly impact the team’s trajectory moving forward.
