Portland – It's not something he lives in, but Landry Shamet agrees that his strong health is a validation to prevent surgery.
“Yeah, knock on the tree. Shamet said before scoring six points in 20 minutes in the victory that won the Knicks' 114-113 buzzer via The Trail Blazers at Moda Center on Wednesday night. “I attacked the rehab and took it very seriously. Frankly, that's not a very thought I have. I feel good, I'm in a good place.”
Shamet played his best season in minutes (24) and scored a best-of-season points (13) in Monday's blowout victory over the Kings.
The performance occurred about five months after he dislocated his shoulder, but chose to rehabilitate rather than go under the knife.
The surgical option ended the Shemet season, but the chances of fully recovering without a set break have increased.
He went on a less certain path of health. This meant that the Knicks re-signed him in December.
It was a bit rocky and the Chamett went in and out of the spin.
However, he rediscovered the three-point shot and hit 44.8% of the time in the previous 13 games before missing Wednesday's only attempt.
Also, Jalen Brunson's injury has led to a trickle-down opportunity, pushing Miles McBride into the starting lineup and pushing Shemett from the bench as one of the two security guards.
“You need to be prepared for every scenario, especially if you're thinking about the postseason,” Shemet said. “So, when you lose an important piece, how do you find a solution and understand things? And I think that's the opportunity for this situation we have right now. Obviously he's a great player and we rely heavily on him to take care of us in many ways. So this is a good opportunity to find victory and try to understand things without the man who is promoting our attacks.
“I think we're all ready for this last stretch. There's a sense of urgency from all of us, from all of us. So it's like we know what we're stretching, we're getting some things done and just trying to do anything.
The lack of production/opportunity from the Knicks Bench has been a theme throughout the season, with Mikal Bridges earning center stage on Wednesday saying he spoke to Coach Tom Thibodeau about reducing the minutes of the Starters.
Shamet said the story about reserves is not something he worries about.
“We really don't take that account. Deuce [McBride] It could increase 5 or 3 per night. He might stay for two nights a night. I might go up two, I might get zeros,” Shemet said. “Things change so we're all fine with it, and we're all like that. I think it should be a more identity conversation than the rest.”
The Blazers were the only team the Knicks hadn't played this season before their matchup at Moda Center on Wednesday night.
Portland is currently on a five-game winning streak, with a 28-39 record. They are now 16-16 at home.
