Lane Kiffin’s Impact on Ole Miss and His New Bonus
Lane Kiffin’s recent transition from Ole Miss to LSU seems to be resounding, particularly amid the Rebels’ surprising Fiesta Bowl journey, which ultimately came to an end. This development has also triggered a substantial bonus for Kiffin as he departs.
In the next 30 days, Kiffin will receive a $500,000 bonus. This payment is a part of the arrangement made when LSU lured him away from Ole Miss, and it is classified as an “ancillary benefit” within Kiffin’s contract with LSU.
His bonus structure was quite layered: Kiffin was slated to receive $150,000 as soon as Ole Miss made it to the playoffs. When the Rebels moved to the quarterfinals, this amount shot up to $250,000. The exciting victory over Georgia on New Year’s Day then bumped the total to $500,000. If Ole Miss had won the College Football Playoff national championship, Kiffin’s earnings would have escalated to $1 million.
“Coach is entitled to receive payment equal to the amount he would have been entitled to if he had continued as head coach with his previous employer and coached his former employer’s football team through the 2025-26 CFP,” states Kiffin’s LSU contract.
The document goes on to suggest that these payments may come from affiliated foundation funds and must be processed within 30 days after Ole Miss’s exit from the playoffs.
After a stellar win against Tulane, the Rebels triumphed over Georgia. Kiffin conveyed his enthusiasm in a social media post, expressing his pride in the team: “Great finish!!! So much fun!! Only two more to go,” he remarked, tagging the Ole Miss squad.
Despite being seen as the underdog in the semifinal match against Miami, Ole Miss didn’t back down. They made a significant challenge, but Miami’s quarterback, Carson Beck, managed to clinch the winning touchdown in the final moments.
Now, Miami is set to face the victor of the other semifinal between Indiana and Oregon.
