LAPD challenges Jimmy Fowlie’s assertion that his missing sister is deceased.

LAPD challenges Jimmy Fowlie's assertion that his missing sister is deceased.

The Los Angeles Police Department has denied allegations that they informed the family of “SNL” writer Jimmy Fowley’s missing sister, Christina Lynn Downer, that she is “no longer alive.”

Downer, who is 38, was reported missing in early December after her family hadn’t heard from her since late November. Fowley shared a poignant update on Wednesday, marking four months since the case went cold.

In his message, he stated, “The LAPD informed our family that Christina was no longer alive, transitioning the case from a missing persons investigation to a homicide investigation. Our hopes for her safe return changed into prayers for the truth and accountability for those responsible.” He shared this on his Instagram, where he has a following of about 73,000.

Yet, on Thursday, the LAPD clarified that they are still actively investigating Downer’s disappearance.

“While the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are suspicious, Ms. Downer has not been located, and her case has not been reclassified as a homicide,” the department noted in a statement.

The department added, “[Robbery-Homicide Division] will continue to diligently investigate this incident until it is resolved.”

Fowley has not publicly addressed the LAPD’s remarks.

In the period leading up to Downer’s disappearance, her family had concerns that someone might have compromised her phone and social media accounts in an attempt to erase her presence.

Just days after she went missing, an old Instagram Story was reposted on her account, claiming, “We’re living in peace. We’ll be waiting if you send us your Christmas treats. Happy Holidays, everyone.”

It remains unclear who shared this repost or if Downer’s account had indeed been tampered with.

Fowley urged supporters to “advocate on Downer’s behalf until someone with information gathers the courage to step forward.”

A vast array of celebrities, including those from “SNL,” rallied behind his plea on their own social media, sharing encouragement and support.

Downer was last seen in Koreatown, Los Angeles.

The LAPD has urged anyone with information about her disappearance to reach out to the Robbery-Homicide Unit at (213) 486-6850.
