Lara Trump Praises Sen. John Fetterman for Bipartisan Stance
On Tuesday, Lara Trump drew parallels between Senator John Fetterman and her father-in-law, President Trump. She commended the Pennsylvania Democrat for deciding to join Republicans in ending the government shutdown and for effectively addressing criticism from “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin.
Fetterman diverged from Democratic leadership by siding with Republican senators in 15 votes aimed at reopening the government. The Senate ultimately passed a bill on Monday that could fund government operations until January 30, 2026, pending House approval.
“Martha, it’s really refreshing to see someone like John Fetterman—someone who does the right thing despite pressure from his party or from TV figures like Sunny Hostin,” Lara Trump mentioned during her guest spot on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha McCallum.”
She further noted the aggressive criticism Fetterman has faced. “He reminds me of another person I know. His name is Donald J. Trump,” she added.
Earlier that day, Fetterman faced scrutiny on ABC’s “The View,” particularly from Hostin, who criticized his actions regarding a significant federal funding backlog.
Hostin compared the situation to “bringing a butter knife into a gunfight” and referenced challenges faced by other Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, while blaming Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for the shutdown.
“MTG is the last person I would take advice from,” Fetterman responded sharply. “If the Democrats are glorifying those individuals, that’s on them.”
He went on to emphasize his refusal to weaponize SNAP benefits, stating, “I won’t make it harder for the 42 million Americans who rely on these benefits to feed their families.”
Lara Trump highlighted Fetterman’s “integrity” and courage, calling it something that resonates with people. She mentioned, “When I interviewed him, he expressed that he would never agree to a government shutdown, regardless of who is at fault, due to the chaos it brings to our country.”
She asserted that Democrats seem more interested in political theatrics rather than genuinely tackling issues. “I think it’s fantastic that John Fetterman is out there. We previously viewed him as somewhat far-left, but now he’s becoming the most sensible person in the Democratic Party, which is quite refreshing,” Lara concluded.
