The largest male white shark ever caught, tagged and released is approaching the east coast of Florida near Jacksonville.
The 13.8-foot, 1,653-pound adult shark candidate was tagged on Jan. 17 in northwest northwest off the Florida Georgia border.
He appears to be moving south, and recently appears to have surfaced near St. Augustine at around 10am on Thursday.
The candidate, the biggest white shark tagged by Oceanarch, is approaching Jacksonville, Florida.

In a Facebook post, the group said the candidates will provide valuable real-time data for around five years.
Oceanach told Affilliate Fox 13 Tampa Bay that candidate tags should be exposed to air for about 90 seconds and the shark's position must be accurately triangulated.
Researchers track shark movements and understand their movement patterns.

At the time of tagging, this group also collected “significant” biological samples from candidates containing genital materials currently under analysis.
The name Contender pays homage to Contender Boats Company, which is affiliated with Oceanch.
