Larry Summers’ Links to Jeffrey Epstein’s Island Revealed
Records indicate that Larry Summers, former Treasury Secretary under Bill Clinton, visited Jeffrey Epstein’s notorious private island.
Emails uncovered this week show that the 70-year-old economist maintained a friendly relationship with Epstein, who was a convicted sex offender, until Epstein’s death. Flight logs reveal Summers traveled on Epstein’s private jet four times, with one of those trips occurring on December 21, 2005, to Charlotte Amalie, the capital of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Little St. James, Epstein’s island, lacks an airstrip, necessitating that Epstein’s plane land there—just a short helicopter hop away. Notably, three of Summers’ trips on the jet, often referred to as the “Lolita Express” due to its alleged use for transporting victims of sex trafficking, occurred between 2001 and 2006 when Summers served as Harvard University’s president.
A federal indictment against Epstein from 2019 detailed how he exploited numerous underage girls from 2002 to 2005 across various locations, including his 72-acre island. It’s worth noting that the island also served as a venue for Epstein to impress academics and other influential figures.
While there’s no indication of wrongdoing by Summers, the specifics surrounding his visits to Little St. James remain unclear. A spokesperson for Summers did not comment on the situation.
Interestingly, flight records indicate that on one of those flights, there were names listed that resembled Epstein’s current wife, Elisa, and Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in Epstein’s trafficking network.
Epstein openly admired Harvard University, donating over $9 million between 1998 and 2008. Despite this generosity, the university later clarified that Epstein was actually a dropout and lacked the qualifications typically associated with visiting scholars.
Summers had another flight from New York to Bedford, Massachusetts, on April 15, 2004, alongside Epstein and Sarah Kellen, who was accused of being complicit in Epstein’s activities. Summers also took a trip on the “Lolita Express” in September 1998, prior to becoming deputy Treasury secretary.
A 2020 report from Harvard revealed that many faculty members admitted to visiting Epstein at his residences or traveling on his plane, asserting those visits were mostly personal rather than affiliated with the university.
New documents from the House Oversight Committee released recently reveal extensive communication between Epstein and Summers from 2013 to 2019. Their conversations mostly centered around women and politics, suggesting ongoing interactions even after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor.
The last email exchanged between them occurred in March 2019, shortly before Epstein’s July arrest. In that exchange, Summers mentioned a woman’s shyness and questioned if Epstein had altered weekend plans for her due to another guest’s arrival. He also remarked, “We’re friends without benefits, and I don’t want to participate in a gift-giving contest.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has called for investigations into Epstein’s connections with former President Bill Clinton and other prominent figures.
