A Las Vegas stepmother could face up to 18 years in prison for failing to stop her husband from torturing their six children while locked in a dog cage.
Amanda Stamper, 33, was previously indicted by a Clark County grand jury on seven counts of felony child abuse and neglect. In December, Stamper pleaded guilty to three felony counts of child abuse, neglect or endangerment.
On Thursday, Clark County District Court Judge Nadia Krall sentenced Stamper to seven to 18 years in prison for failing to protect children from horrific abuse.
Before being sentenced, Stamper told the court: “I’m embarrassed to be here. I know I should have done something sooner. I take full responsibility. I wasn’t in the best of situations either, and I was scared.” he said.
Stamper was a sex worker who worked as a pimp for her 32-year-old husband, Travis Doss. Her police said Stamper failed to stop her husband, an aspiring rapper known as “Trap Montana,” from abusing their children, who ranged in age from 2 to 11.
Authorities say Stamper only came forward with the horrific child abuse charges after she learned of her husband’s affair.
Stamper contacted authorities after she reportedly sent Doss nearly 100 text messages but her husband did not respond.
Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Dena Linetti I got it. It was clear that it was “all about her and never about the kids.”
“The defendant failed to protect his six stepchildren every day,” Linetti added. “Her actions and inactions will impact these children for the rest of their lives.”
Linetti said Doss locked one of the children in a dog cage for five days and starved him. The child was reportedly severely malnourished.
As Blaze News previously reported, police body camera video revealed the dire conditions the children were placed in.
Police body camera footage taken in June 2023 shows two children locked in a dog cage while other minors were left alone inside a one-bedroom motel room. The situation was visible. KLAS-TV Many of the children reported being bruised and severely malnourished.
Ms. Doss texted Mr. Stamper a photo of what appeared to be one of the children and told Mr. Stamper that she had killed the boy. The child was found to be alive.
Stamper claimed she was a victim of her husband and was afraid to report the child abuse.
Rinetti argued that if Stamper truly felt he was in danger, he would have had access to a car and an opportunity to leave the house and call police or Child Protective Services.
A grand jury indicted Doss on 38 counts of felony child abuse, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of sex trafficking, and one count of subsisting on the proceeds of a prostitute. Stamper is the alleged victim of sex trafficking accusations.
North Myrtle Beach police said Doss had an active warrant for aggravated assault out of South Carolina at the time of his arrest.
Mr. Doss is scheduled to appear in court on February 29th.
Stamper and Doss had one child together at the time of their arrest. Stamper reportedly gave birth to another child in December.
