Violent Clash on the Las Vegas Strip After $20 Tip Dispute
A brawl in Las Vegas began with a seemingly innocent $20 tip for photos with showgirls, but it quickly escalated into violence, resulting in injuries to two tourists. Reports indicate that one individual was struck over 22 times and hit in the head with a high-heeled boot.
According to a local station’s report, Jennifer Ortiz and Magdellena Romero were taken into custody following the confrontation outside Planet Hollywood on September 30, where police arrived after receiving calls about a fight involving women in showgirl attire.
The incident reportedly started when tourists from North Carolina posed for pictures with three women dressed as showgirls. After tipping $20, they attempted to leave, but Ortiz pursued them, insisting they owed between $60 and $180 for the photos.
In a shocking turn, Ortiz allegedly began to physically assault one of the tourists, even using her high-heeled boot to strike the victim’s forehead, causing a nearly two-inch cut. Surveillance footage matched witness accounts, showing the victim being hit repeatedly.
Footage from the chaotic scene also depicted showgirls battling with both a man and a woman. One of the performers was seen pulling the woman’s hair and hitting her. The man, visibly bloodied, tried to intervene, but not before pushing one of the showgirls to stop the violence.
Despite their injuries, both tourists received treatment on-site but chose not to go to a hospital. They later provided statements to authorities, asking for charges to be filed against their assailants.
Additionally, reports included another complaint from a man who alleged he was charged $218 after agreeing only to pay $60 for photos. He claimed that after tapping his debit card, he later discovered the more substantial charge. When he tried to confront Ortiz, he was allegedly given a fake phone number for resolution.
In their defense, Ortiz claimed one of the tourists acted aggressively first, while Romero stated she intervened to protect her friend.
Both Ortiz and Romero face charges related to the incident, with Ortiz specifically charged with battery and fraud involving less than $1,200. They were booked into the Clark County Detention Center and are expected to appear in court again on December 3.
Notably, Ortiz had previously been ordered to avoid trouble following another altercation just months earlier at Fremont Street Experience.
