A Las Vegas woman's body was found stuffed inside her home's freezer weeks after she called police out of concern for her ex-roommate, who killed her, according to reports. It is suspected that he was living with the deceased.
Monique Gilbertson, 68, was found in an icebox at her home after police responded to a request for a medical check by an employee of the 55 and over community. 8 News Now reported.
“She called you guys about two weeks ago,” the employee told a dispatcher in a 911 call obtained by a local station. “She called because she was having issues with her roommate and she found a gun in his stuff, but I don't know how far that conversation went. I couldn't get in touch with him and said I wanted to throw it in the trash.”
According to arrest documents obtained by 8 News Now, her roommate, Daniel Rausch, 37, met Gilbertson at the store and invited him to move in with her.
Although the two were originally on good terms, Gilbertson “pissed off at Rausch's dirty work,” kicked him out around October 22 and exchanged locks, the newspaper reported.
The employee who requested the medical examination told police that Gilbertson called the property management office several times a day, but that the calls stopped the same day, around Oct. 22.
Police said Rausch and a woman were inside the home during a welfare check on Nov. 6, and Gilbertson was nowhere to be found, the department said.
According to the documents, Rausch asked the officers if they had a warrant to search the freezer and found Gilbertson slumped in a chair in the dining room and not knowing what to do, “put him in the icebox.” He has decided to do so. .
The suspect allegedly told police he suspected he had overdosed on cocaine or fentanyl that Gilbertson had purchased.
The employee who requested the welfare check told the 911 dispatcher that she did not believe Gilbertson was using drugs or drinking alcohol, the department said.
