Frogmore Cottage Set for Renovation After Duke and Duchess of Sussex Departure
Frogmore Cottage is reportedly going to be renovated, three years after Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan left the residence. It seems, well, it’s been empty for quite a while now. A source mentioned, “Even Andrew didn’t think it was good enough to move in.”
The insider also hinted that perhaps someone in the royal family might prefer to erase any reminders of Harry and Meghan. “It would draw a line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to a pre-Meghan and Harry era,” they noted.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on the situation.
The property was a wedding gift to the couple from Queen Elizabeth II in 2018, which they quickly renovated—spending around $2.8 million to transform two single-family homes into a unified space.
After taking on the renovation in 2018, the couple was later asked to leave in 2023 by Prince Harry’s father, Charles III. This request came around the same time Harry released his memoir, “Spare.” Currently, Frogmore Cottage is under the ownership of the Crown Estate.
Ultimately, Harry and Meghan ended up paying the royal family about $3.3 million, covering both rent and renovation costs. Sir Michael Stevens mentioned in March 2023 that this amount would settle their ongoing obligations and described it as a good outcome.
After their departure, they settled into a lavish $14 million home in Montecito, California. Their new residence remains under wraps, but reports suggest it includes a pool, tennis court, and even a children’s cottage.
Markle, in 2021, showcased her home office while discussing her 40×40 initiative. The workspace featured a distinctive Pottery Barn dining table that doubles as a desk, elegant chairs, and a collection of coffee table books. The room also appeared in Prince Harry’s Netflix documentary, “Heart of Invictus,” showcasing its beautiful fireplace and ample natural light.
