Mariska Hargitay perfectly embodied her Law & Order: Special Victims Unit character by helping a young girl find her mother.
Hargitay donned his “SVU” detective uniform to film the show in New York City on April 10, giving him an uncanny resemblance to a police officer.
A young girl, unaware of the cast and crew around the location, approached Hargitay, mistaking her for a real police officer and asking him to help her find her mother.

Hargitay immediately sprang into action, channeling the inner emotions of Olivia Benson, the detective she plays on the show.
Witnesses told People magazine that Hargitay paused filming for 20 minutes to help the child find his mother. The interaction took place at the Ann Loftus Playground at Fort Tryon Park.
Eventually, the girl was reunited with her mother with Hargitay’s help.

Hargitay seems to have learned a thing or two from playing a detective in the Law & Order spinoff since 1999.
SVU is currently filming season 25. The show is the longest-running primetime live-action series in American television history.
“We’ve been on parallel journeys,” Hargitay told People ahead of the premiere of the show’s 25th season in January. “WWOBD, there are times when you say, ‘What would Olivia Benson do?'” Fans were always talking about it, and one day I had a moment where I kind of slipped into her, too. It’s the perfect feminist story. ”
