Lawler slams Greene’s letter to House GOP targeting Johnson

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) said fellow Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) sent a letter to colleagues expressing her dissatisfaction with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana). I blamed him for that.

Lawler joined CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday to discuss the letter. He called the letter a “massive prostitute.”

“At the end of the day, the American people elected the House Republican majority to govern, not to fight among ourselves, but to serve as checks and balances on the Biden administration.” Lawler said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ms. Greene sent a five-page letter to Republican lawmakers listing the issues she has with Mr. Johnson. She removed Mr. Johnson from leadership, just months after the House ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in a historic vote that left the House in chaos with no leadership. He is threatening to force a vote to remove it.

Greene criticized Johnson for “serving the Democratic Party” and criticized him for his handling of government funds, including aid to Ukraine in its war with Russia. She claimed Mr Johnson was not serving the party properly and said she would “not tolerate” this type of leadership.

Lawler said Greene had threatened to move to resign after eight far-right senators “united with 208 Democrats” to remove McCarthy and “destroy the majority” and the party He said it was “disturbing” that he was facing a similar situation. .

“When I say Mike Johnson isn’t a conservative, I don’t want to know what she thinks of me,” Lawler said of Greene’s letter.

“Because, obviously, I represent a district that Joe Biden won by 10 points, and yes, it’s home to Bill Soros, Hillary Clinton, and George Soros.” he continued. “Mike Johnson lives in one of the most conservative districts in the country.”

Lawler pointed to several issues, including immigration and the southern border, the affordability crisis, and the Israeli-Hamas border, where Republicans most disagree with Democrats.

“On the other hand, you know, Marjorie Taylor Greene is trying to turn this all into an eviction motion right now,” he said. “We have to work together and we have to accomplish the agenda of the American people.” [want] This includes supporting our allies. ”
