Republicans Urge Action on Election Security Following Trump’s Address
After President Trump’s “shocking” address to the nation, several prominent Republicans echoed a call to action, emphasizing it’s crucial to secure America’s elections.
In his speech, Trump touched on multiple topics, honing in on election integrity and the alarming vulnerabilities he claims are present. He mentioned concerns that China might be stealing voter information and interfering with elections, suggesting that these realities have been ignored by what he terms the “deep state.” Moreover, he stated that over a quarter of non-citizens are registered voters.
“I’ve instructed the Department of Homeland Security to alert states about noncitizens on their rolls and ensure they remove ineligible voters immediately,” Trump stated. He stressed that for real change in election security, Congress must pass the SAVE America Act, suggesting that avoiding fraud shouldn’t be difficult.
In fact, Trump speculated that the reluctance to advance the SAVE America Act stems from a desire to maintain fraudulent practices and support weak candidates who wouldn’t succeed on their own merit.
“The only reason not to do it is because you want to cheat, because the policies are so bad and the candidates are so pathetic that you can’t get away with it or get elected any other way,” Trump claimed.
Lawmakers largely supported these statements, underlining the need for the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to present valid ID to confirm their U.S. citizenship for federal elections.
Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) remarked, “The revelations in President Trump’s speech were truly shocking,” characterizing China as a major adversary determined to undermine the American system. He declared that protecting elections from fraud and foreign influence has never been more vital.
“We need the SAVE America Act now,” Scott insisted. “The Senate should be working nonstop to make this happen. Filibuster or lose. Suspend recess. Whatever it takes.”
Representative Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) shared details from documents released by the White House, claiming, “China attempted to create fake ballots for Joe Biden.”
Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) added that it’s essential to eliminate birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants. “Protect our sovereignty. Pass the Citizenship Act of 2026,” he stated.
Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) simply asserted, “That’s it. That’s all there is to it, especially now,” while calling for the passage of the SAVE America Act.
As Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) remarked, “If we don’t pass the SAVE America Act, we will lose our country.”
Representative Mark Harris (R-N.C.) expressed that the findings released by the White House are troubling for both Republicans and Democrats, highlighting the necessity for stronger election safeguards. “The integrity of our elections and the American people’s confidence depend on it,” he said.
Rep. Riley M. Moore (R-Wis.) pointed out that over 278,000 foreign nationals are registered to vote and emphasized the need for immediate Senate action on the SAVE America Act.
Following Trump’s address, Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) mentioned that maintaining faith in democracy requires secure elections and advocated for the passage of the SAVE America Act.
Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) asserted that the Chinese Communist Party poses a significant threat to America and made clear that their attempts to meddle in U.S. elections won’t be tolerated. “Now is the time to pass the SAVE America Act,” he urged.
Several other congressional members have also joined in making similar calls to uphold the integrity of American elections.
