Texas Lawyer Charged with DUI and Drug Possession
Recently, a Texas man, who labeled himself as “the dopest lawyer in town,” faced misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence in his girlfriend’s neighborhood.
According to witnesses, Daniel Mehler, a marijuana attorney based in San Antonio, was seen throwing items at his girlfriend’s residence while driving around. A police warrant was issued for his blood test.
When officers arrived, they found Mehler outside, claiming that his girlfriend wouldn’t let him in. He declined a breathalyzer test, but officers noted that he had the smell of alcohol and slurred speech. Mehler attributed his slurred speech to a speech impediment, although the police reported that he struggled to maintain his balance and had red, glassy eyes.
Additionally, Mehler is accused of possessing a small quantity of a Schedule 1-A drug, which could include substances like heroin or LSD, and faces a felony drug possession charge. When arrested, officers reportedly discovered three small tabs in a wrapper.
Mehler, 40, posted bond after his arrest and is scheduled for arraignment in November. This incident isn’t his first run-in with the law; he was previously arrested for sexual assault in July 2024, but those charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
Mehler’s law firm focuses primarily on cannabis-related legal issues, including DUI cases. Interestingly, his website also describes him as “the meanest lawyer in town,” and he has been practicing law since May 2013.
