Houston Texans Safety Jimmie Ward Arrested on Felony Charges
Jimmie Ward, a safety for the Houston Texans, has been arrested on felony assault charges. His legal representatives assert that the facts will demonstrate his innocence following his arrest last week in Texas.
The 33-year-old Ward was taken into custody early Thursday and booked at Montgomery County Jail. He faces multiple felony charges related to assault against family members, specifically for obstructing breathing and circulation.
After being arrested, he was released on a $30,000 bond.
The Texans issued a statement acknowledging they were aware of the situation but have not provided additional comments while they gather more information.
Ward’s attorney, Steve Jackson, expressed confidence that Ward will be exonerated as the investigation continues. Jackson pointed out that they have identified a witness who has raised concerns about Ward’s treatment. He mentioned, “It’s unfortunate that athletes often encounter these situations, which, at first glance, seems common.” The legal team intends to thoroughly investigate the witness’s background and history.
Ward previously spent the majority of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, where he made a significant impact over nine seasons, recording seven interceptions and 451 tackles across 106 games. He joined the Texans as a free agent during the 2023 offseason, signing a two-year contract worth $13 million. Recently, he also signed a one-year extension valued at $10.5 million.
Throughout his time in Houston, Ward has played in 20 games, accumulating three interceptions and 98 tackles.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Ward’s legal team has requested an amendment to his bond agreement to include a GPS ankle monitor. A decision has yet to be made regarding the allegations, but he is scheduled to appear in court again on July 16.
