Lawyer smuggled K2-soaked legal docs into jail for inmates: cops

A Florida defense attorney has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling legal documents soaked in wild synthetic marijuana, known as K2, into a prison with the intent of stoning inmates, officials said.

Nathan Williams, 37, sold psychotic street drugs (also known as “spice” and “paper dope”) to the Duval County Jail in Jacksonville in exchange for money and bribes, local police said. It is said that he gave it to prisoners.

Undersheriff Sean Coursey said at a news conference Tuesday that the attorney is accused of working with inmates and their families to transport the substance into the jail, which caused dangerous overdoses, and accused him of “inmate abuse.” He said it was possible.

Williams' arrest was part of a larger investigation called Operation Stamp Recovery that began in February 2024 after 23 inmates overdosed the previous year, Coursey said.

Authorities arrested 21 people, including Williams, who served in the National Guard for 16 years, Coursey said. The suspects were not cooperating.

Since the investigation, inmate overdoses in the area have decreased by 61% in 2024, the deputy sheriff said.

Mr Causey said the investigation was ongoing and he expected more arrests to be made.

Williams was handcuffed Sunday night and charged with eight felonies, including giving drugs to an inmate, introducing drugs into a prison and illegal use of a communication device.

Mr. Williams posted bail and was released on Tuesday. He is scheduled to return to court on January 28th. According to a report in Law & Crime.

Williams did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday morning.

It was not immediately known who his attorney was.
