Leader of MS-13 gang, known as part of ‘Twelve Apostles of the Devil,’ arrested on terror charges in Texas

A top leader of the Salvadoran crime gang MS-13 has reportedly been arrested in Texas after three years on the run. In the statement From the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Federal prosecutors said Cesar Humberto Lopez Larios was arrested by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security upon his arrival at George Bush Airport in Houston, Texas, on Sunday.

“MS-13 has caused so much bloodshed and turned our communities into battlefields.”

Lopez Larios is considered a top official in the violent crime organization and is believed to be one of the founding members of the “Twelve Apostles of the Devil,” which has since expanded to 14 members.

“Lopez Larios is charged with conspiracy to provide and conceal material support to terrorists, conspiracy to commit transnational terrorism, conspiracy to commit terrorist financing and conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism,” the statement said.

He is accused of helping run a criminal enterprise in El Salvador, Mexico and the United States, along with 13 other co-defendants who ordered acts of violence and murder.

“The arrest of Lopez Larios, one of MS-13’s most senior leaders worldwide, is a major win for law enforcement and another important step toward dismantling this international criminal organization,” U.S. Attorney Breon Peace said in a statement. “The defendant will soon stand trial in federal court on Long Island, where, under his orders, MS-13 has shed so much blood and turned communities into battlegrounds.”

The two gang associates remain at large and authorities are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to their arrest and conviction.

MS-13 stands for Mara Salvatrucha. Established Founded in the 1980s in Los Angeles, California by immigrants from El Salvador, this criminal organization was originally created to protect Salvadoran immigrants from other gangs in Southern California, but has also spread into Latin America.

“MS-13 has committed murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, drug trafficking, extortion against individuals and businesses, and obstruction of justice, and has wired funds from membership dues and proceeds from its criminal activities to MS-13 leadership in El Salvador,” the US Attorney’s Office said.

Members of the MS-13 gang have been convicted of horrific and evil crimes in the United States. In one example in April 2023, a man with ties to the crime group murdered an Uber Eats driver in Florida and mutilated his body.

“This is satanic. What this individual did was satanic,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a press conference at the time.

Former President Donald Trump warned Americans about the threat of unscreened immigrants at the southern border, citing terrorist organizations. Democrats say he was motivated by racism and exaggerated the threat to smear immigrants and stoke xenophobia.
