Lebanese Doctor at Brown University Deported in Spite of Judge’s Order

An assistant professor at Brown University's medical school was deported to Lebanon despite the judge preventing immediate removal from the country.

US District Judge Leo Sorokin and the judge appointed by Obama Will. listen The lawsuit was Monday over whether the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “willfully” failed to comply with an order that would stop Dr. Rasha Alawyer from deporting Lebanon.

CBP spokesman Hilton Beckham said immigrants are burdened with establishing acceptability and agency officials will “follow strict protocols to identify and suspend threats.”

The CBP has detained Alawie, a Lebanese citizen who lives in Providence, Rhode Island.

While in Lebanon, the US consulate issued an H-1B visa to Alawie and allowed him to enter the US to work at Brown University, the lawsuit said. Such visas are reserved for people in other countries employed in the profession.

Judge Sorokin issued an order on Friday evening blocking the removal of Alawier from Massachusetts without 48 hours of notice to the court.
