Lakers Face Another Loss Despite Doncic’s Return
CLEVELAND — The Lakers dodged a significant scare when star guard Luka Doncic came back into Wednesday night’s game against the Cavaliers after taking a hard tumble into the stands just a few minutes in.
However, they couldn’t escape yet another double-digit defeat as LeBron James returned to Cleveland, adding to the questions about their NBA prospects beyond this season.
Los Angeles fell 129-99 to the Cavaliers at Rocket Arena, despite James facing a rare off-night in front of a supportive crowd.
Doncic ended the game with 29 points, six assists, and five rebounds after his return, but the Cavaliers completely outplayed the Lakers in the second half, outscoring them 72-44, marking their fifth consecutive win.
James managed just 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting, alongside six turnovers, five assists, and three rebounds.
Interestingly, his son Bronny James added eight points during the final quarter, which kept the game largely out of reach for the Lakers.
What’s Next for the Lakers?
The Lakers are still struggling to find their groove, stuck at 28 wins and 18 losses this season, which keeps them in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. They have only one win on this current “Grammy” road trip thus far.
Turning Points
Two moments defined this game. The Cavaliers took control early in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 19-10 and establishing a solid lead.
Even after a timeout, Cleveland continued to press their advantage. Lakers player Rui Hachimura struggled immensely, missing all seven shots he attempted.
That run for the Cavaliers, totaling 17-7 by the end of the quarter, effectively sealed Los Angeles’s fate as they entered the final period down 99-77.
MVP: Jaylon Tyson
Jaylon Tyson had an impressive performance, finishing with 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists over 29 minutes, even drawing several offensive fouls against James.
Shooting Struggles
The Lakers showcased one of their better shooting performances against the Bulls earlier but floundered dramatically against the Cavaliers. They hit just nine of 32 three-pointers, and it was Doncic and Gabe Vincent who managed to find the mark consistently until Bronny added a late three.
Next up, the Lakers will look to rebound on their road trip against the Wizards on Friday, followed by games against the Knicks and the Nets in New York.
