LeBron James concludes remarkable 1,297-game scoring streak in Lakers victory

LeBron James’ Historic Streak Ends

On Thursday night, a significant chapter in sports history came to a close. LeBron James, renowned as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, failed to hit the 10-point mark in a regular season game for the first time since January 5, 2007. That notable date was during his early years with the Cleveland Cavaliers. His previous streak of 1,297 games stands as the longest in NBA history.

James had an opportunity to extend his streak by taking the game-winning shot. However, as the clock ran out, he chose to assist Rui Hachimura, who made a critical 3-pointer. This play secured a 123-120 victory for the Los Angeles Lakers over the Toronto Raptors.

In terms of streaks, the next closest is Michael Jordan’s 866 games. Kevin Durant, now the active leader, trails with a current streak of 267 games.

Even with the possibility of ending such an impressive streak, James felt it was fitting to go out this way. He remarked, “We won,” emphasizing his commitment to making the right plays, regardless of personal stats. “The Gods of the game always give it back to me,” he added.

After the match, his selfless decision to pass the ball earned him praise from teammates. Lakers center Jake LaRavia noted, “He’s a very unselfish player. He made a choice, and we won the game.” Austin Reeves echoed this sentiment, highlighting James’ focus on winning and making smart plays throughout his career.

Despite accolades, James has faced some criticism for passing in moments where he could have taken the shot himself. He dismissed such criticism as “one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.” Ultimately, he maintains that winning is the priority, stating, “That’s how I’ve won at every level I’ve played.”
